After retiring from running Pathfinder Team Consulting and PTC Investments I have been “keeping my hand in” with clients in both the public and private sectors.
For the last 5 years I have been a Global Advisor to www.choosedelaware.com. In this role I have used my extensive knowledge of the US to help businesses from Europe understand the marketplace and how best to access it. In the private sector, much of my time has involved mentoring individuals in organisations as they reshape their businesses, something I have always enjoyed doing as any resulting success they have is tangible. In recent times I’ve had the privilege of talking to students in various parts of the world about my life and business experiences and this I’m honoured to say has led, through my network, to me becoming an Ambassador for the CEPAR program at the University of Southampton Business school. |

My career has exposed me to many types of management style and strategies. I have learned which are good and those that should be left well alone!
So, working on an idea a friend of mine gave me back in 2010, with support of a long standing business colleague who has helped with the editing, I have written a business handbook using stories and thoughts from the last 55 years. Written in simple non-academic language it will remind readers of business ideas that though obvious in many cases can equally be forgotten, or notions expressed in a different manner that the reader can put to use in their own business or indeed life. It is designed for readers to use as a notebook to record their own thoughts and ideas in where something rings the proverbial bell or perhaps to share that thought or idea with others later. During the last decade I was fortunate to be given the chance to tell some of these stories and interview business leaders on a radio station in the UK. The title of that program was Smallman – Making Sense of Business which I have adopted as the title for the book. Not working full time gives me the opportunity to see more of the grandchildren, play golf and relax by walking on the beach. It has also been a time to reflect on a very eclectic career, travelling around the world (64 countries on 5 continents in 55 years) as well as having the privilege of working with numerous talented people in many very different cultures. |

America & Delaware: Realising the Potential - Horizon Winter 24-25
In this magazine I discuss how UK Businesses can turn ambition and potential into reality when it comes to trading with America, and in particular, the state of Delaware.
“The clue is in the name of the country, the United STATES of America. As a business you cannot simply assume it’s one marketplace...if you are going to do business in Utah, you’ll do it in a completely different way as you do in southern Florida.”
